The National Monuments Service's description
Caherereganagh/Cathair Chraobhach: This site is incorrectly positioned on the first edition of the OS map, where it is indicated as a circular enclosure. It is located on a ledge of high ground, W of the Coomnahorna river, overlooking Darrynane Bay to SW. The site survives as an ill-defined, subcircular mound which is covered in dense vegetation. Measuring 12.6m N-S x 12m E-W in diameter, it rises 1.5m above surrounding ground level. It is composed of earth, gravel, a substantial quantity of small stone and some large boulders. Some of the latter may represent field clearance. An inconspicuous opening on the mound's NE side, marked by a roofing lintel, leads into a souterrain passage (KE106-067001-), titled 'Cave' on the OS maps, that appears to extend to W. The passage is blocked by an accumulation of modern domestic debris.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 715. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
