The National Monuments Service's description
This site, known locally as 'The Turret', is marked on the first edition of the OS map as a circular enclosure. It is located in pasture on the S side of the Inny estuary and affords a lengthy view up the river valley to NE. The present remains consist of a bank enclosing a roughly square depression, 9.9m N-S x 10.1m E-W. The flat-topped bank of earth and gravel rises .8m above external ground level, averages 2.5m wide and falls 2m to the interior. A possible entrance gap, 1.1m wide, occurs in the bank at NE. Centrally positioned within the interior of the site is a low, overgrown, stony platform, 2.3m x 2m in overall dimensions, and at SE is a shallow, inaccessible opening, at least 2m wide and .3m high, which appears to extend to SE.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1482. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
