The National Monuments Service's description

Not marked on the OS maps, this ruinous oval-shaped enclosure is located in rough grazing land on the E slopes of canuig, overlooking Ballinskelligs Bay to E. A low grass-grown bank of earth and stone, .3m high and .6m wide encloses an area 10m NE-SW x 9.7 NW-SE. An irregular upright, .8m x .5m x .15m thick, is set at right angles to the line of the enclosing element at S, A break in the bank at NE is marked by four conspicuous uprights; a parallel pair orientated NE-SW and, 1.4m beyond the bank to N, a second parallel pair, orientated E-W. They may have formed part of an elaborate entrance feature. The inner pair, set .5m apart, measure 1.65m x .65m x .2m and 1.05m x .5m x .27m and are of regular elevation. The outer pair .25m apart, measure 1m x .32m x .3m and .45m x .35m x .15m. The upright on the S side inclines to S. No clearly defined features are visible in the interior of the site, though a number of low irregular stony mounds (KE097-031001-) are present.

The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 717. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
