Promontory fort - coastal

Possible promontory fort described in 2003 as follows; ‘A level flat triangular headland flanked by sheer cliffs on three sides measures 90m wide at the neck and 90m long. It is cut off from the mainland by a 2.5m wide 1m deep fosse, flanked by low earthen banks on either side. While these features are too unsubstantial to be the remains of a promontory fort, the existence of a small circular earthen enclosure, barely visible in the sward, lying close to the southern cliff edge in the interior point to the earlier occupation of the headland. The surrounding area is one of cleared and drained coarse pasture. The sea is not accessible from within. A large headland immediately to the south has further evidence of hut sites on the promontory’ (Casey 2003, 26, no. D).
