The National Monuments Service's description
New site identified by John Cronin & Associates (JCA) under Licence No. 16E0127 prior to wind farm development in Barnastooka, Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry by ESB Wind Development Ltd. The remains of a roughly square hut site, located on the inside of NICH36 settlement enclosure wall, in the southeast of overall complex (ITM grid co-ord. 505671, 571356). Basal stones of hut are set on edge along its eastern and northern sides, leaning inwards slightly. On the west, the wall’s basal stones are mostly obscured by vegetation and sod while the southern side is formed by the NICH36 enclosure wall. Location of entrance is unclear but may be on west. Its internal area measures 1.4m by 1.4m NNW-SSE, the average wall width is 0.45m and the average height is 0.3m. The stratigraphic relationship between the hut and the settlement enclosure is not clear but the hut appears to have been built up against it. The ground in this part of the settlement enclosure is damp and peaty, with extensive views out over the valley to the south and south-east. However, it is somewhat isolated from the main concentration of archaeological sites in the west of this settlement enclosure, e.g. NICH38-41.
