The National Monuments Service's description
In Slaheny Wood, on a spur of level pasture, c. 200m SW of a bend in the Slaheny River. A densely overgrown, roughly circular area (22.5m N-S; 20.5m E-W) defined by a scarp (H 1m). A fosse (Wth 1.8m) is evident outside the scarp SW-WNW, elsewhere the ground falls away steeply from the base of the scarp to the valley below. The remains of a bank (Wth 10.7m; int. H 1.1m; ext. H 1.55m), an intervening fosse and a low outer bank (int. H 1m) are evident SW-W. The interior is level. The ground slopes down steeply from the rath on all sides except at W where the entrance is situated. A recent N-S field boundary immediately to the W of the rath may have truncated the fosses and banks along the W arc.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
