The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture and woodland on steep N-facing slope overlooking the Roughty River. Two-storey house with front (N) of five bays; two-storey, one-bay gabled projection off-centre to right with central door. Gable-ended with large chimney off-centre to right. Rear elevation of three bays with dormer windows on first floor. Lean-to extension at E end. A range of lofted outhouses adjoins the front of the house at right angles to its W end. House was originally associated with the Orpen family and is believed to date to the 18th -century (Bary 1994, 150). According to local knowledge it served as a stopping place for coaches which travelled the old coach road running in a N-S direction immediately W of the house.
