The National Monuments Service's description
Internal diam. 16.3m N-S, 14.7m E-W
This small circular caher is located in boggy pasture directly S of the Oweveen river, which flows W from Lough Iskanamacteery. A large circular hut, modified for use as a double sheepfold, occupies its centre. The enclosing element of the site is no longer extant along its S sector, and a modern sheepfold interrupts its probable course at SE. A 1.5m wide eroded gap at WSW may represent the original entrance. The enclosing wall is elsewhere faced internally and externally with large boulder-like slabs, set in rough horizontal courses, which enclose a rubble core. The upper surface of the wall is topped with a peaty sod. It has an average external height of 1.1m, an average internal height of .75m, and is 2.5m wide.
The hut (KE090-017001-) occupies almost the entire interior of the site and is internally divided by a modern wall. It has an internal diameter of 6.4m 5.9m, and its well-preserved wall of faced drystone masonry is 1.45m high and up to 2m wide. Its E facing entrance, marked by an upright slab on its S side, is 1.1m wide.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 588. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
