The National Monuments Service's description
A circular enclosure and 'Cave' are marked on the first edition of the OS maps at this location. No surface trace survives of the enclosure, which is marked ‘site of’ on the second edition. It was located in pasture on a flat-topped hillock, a short distance W of Derriana Lough. The opening to a souterrain (KE090-003----), .6m x .75m, is located on the NW face of the hillock. It leads into a drystone-built passage, aligned E-W, which is roofed with lintels. The W end of the passage appears to have collapsed. Local information records a second opening, now closed up, on the SE side of the hillock. This may indicate that a second souterrain passage is aligned at right angles to the first.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 663. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
