The National Monuments Service's description
A modern house occupies the site of the circular enclosure depicted at this location on the first edition of the OS map. Local memory recalls the former existence of a rath here. This is probably the site titled 'Gurtatuggart Fort'/ Gort an tSagairt in the OSNB, where it is described as an 'earthen fort about one chain in diameter' (Prior, 59).
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 671. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
