The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture, on a hillock overlooking the valley of the Roughty River. A circular area (27.8m N-S; 27.7m E-W) defined by two earthen banks with an intervening fosse. The inner bank (Wth 7.1m; int. H 1.3m; ext. H 4.8m) is revetted by a drystone wall internally and is heavily overgrown with trees and bushes. The intervening fosse (Wth 1.6m) is visible all round. The outer bank (Wth 3.5m; int. H 2m; ext. H 1.2m) survives intermittently. The interior is raised (H 2.3m) above the external ground level to compensate for the hillslope. There is a causeway entrance (Wth 2.6m) at S. A souterrain (KE085-012001-) was recorded in this rath.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
