The National Monuments Service's description
In rough hill pasture, on the S-facing slope of Mangerton Mountain. A network of relict field walls appears intermittently in a roughly rectangular area (c. 550m E-W; c. 250m N-S). A typical section of the network comprises a collapsed drystone wall (T 1m; H 0.2-0.5m), the base stones of which protrude above the surface of the bog. Loose stones are scattered along each side of the surviving wall. Field walls that were identified in an aerial photograph (GSIAP, V.291/W.138) taken in 1973, were not visible at ground level. However, there is evidence of field-clearance cairns and grassed-over, 19th-century cultivation ridges (on a N-S axis) in the general area. A cashel (KE085-003001-) is located in the NW area of the network. Three enclosures (KE085-003002-, KE085-003004-, KE085-003007-) and two hut sites (KE085-003008-, KE085-003010-) are also within the network of field walls.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
