Ringfort - rath

This bivallate rath is located a short distance S of the confluence of the Owroe and Inny rivers, in an area of level pastureland. The outer bank is gapped at intervals, measures 1m high, both externally and internally, and is 2.8m wide. It is overlain in places by modern field walls. The flat-bottomed fosse measures 3.1m wide, and the inner bank rises 1.7m above its base. The earthen bank measures up to 4m in basal width and falls .85m to the interior. Intermittent stretches of drystone facing flank its inner face. The second edition of the OS maps depicts a break in both enclosing banks at E. Overgrowth prevents identification of this possible entrance feature. There are scatters of stone in the level interior of the site, but none forms any distinct pattern.
