The National Monuments Service's description
Children's Burial Ground: This wedge-shaped mound or platform, no longer in use as a burial ground by the late nineteenth century, is located on the lower NE slopes of Bentee mountain. Rising up to 1m above surrounding ground level, it is 17.5m long and broadens in width from 7.5m at E to 12.5m at W, where it is bounded by a modern field boundary. Two prominent slabs stand 1m apart at the N perimeter of the site and may mark an entrance. The stony surface of the platform features a large number of thin, uninscribed, upright grave-markers. These average .3m high. Henry noted a fragment of a quern-stone among the graves (1957, 74), but this is no longer apparent.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1018. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
