Megalithic tomb - wedge tomb

This monument lies on level pasture, c. 50m from the E shore of Lough Kay, overlooking Valencia Harbour to SW. Now in very ruined condition, this small tomb consists of an unroofed gallery that is deeply buried in the ground and aligned NE-SW. There are faint traces of a low mound at the N side of the structure.
The gallery was originally at least 2.8m long. Its sides each consist of two stones, the W stone on the N side inclining markedly inwards. The stones protrude on average only .3m above ground level. The E end of the gallery is either missing or concealed. At the W end is a transverse stone which may represent some form of an entrance feature (de Valera and Ó Nualláin 1982, 62).
