The National Monuments Service's description
The ruined remains of this subcircular enclosure, which is not marked on the OS maps, are located in rough, sloping land on the NW side of Valencia Island. Remnants of stone walling, .5m high, can be traced for a distance of 8.6m at S, defined on its inner edge by a series of upright slabs set at right angles to the line of the wall. A low bank outlines the N and W sectors. The interior of the site is featureless. This may be the partly destroyed 'fort', with a souterrain, which was noted by Westropp on the 'flank of Cool hill' (1912, 298).
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 656. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
