The National Monuments Service's description
'These walls cover an area of approximately 2000m sq. The form of the walls can be divided into two distinct types: mound type walls, approximately 0.7m in width and 0.5m high, constructed of small rounded limestone boulders, occasional slabs and smaller stones. If this was the original height of the walls then it is possible that these walls may have been surmounted or augmented by wooden posts. The second wall type identified here is constructed of large upright slabs of limestone, both inner and outer faces, filled with a rubble coure. Boulders are also used instead of slabs in places. The walls have an average height of 1m, and also up to 1m in width. This wall type appears to be the most common, forming several small rounded fields. These wallls are becoming increasingly exposed due to recent turf cutting. They are located immedaiately to the north of the stone chammbers (KE068-169001- to KE068-169004-) and chambered mound (KE068-169005-). As no walls impact on these chambers, it is tempting to suggest a degree of contemporaniety.'
The above description was published in F. Coyne, 'Islands in the clouds: an upland archaeological study on Mount Brandon and the Paps, Co. Kerry.' (Kerry Co. Council in association with Aegis Archaeology, 2006).
