The National Monuments Service's description

Excavation by Michael Connolly in 2001 under licence no. 01E1207 was summarised as follows; 'This excavation of five isolated deposits/features noted during licensed monitoring of topsoil-stripping of a farm access road was associated with the realignment of the N22 between Bealagrellagh and Gortatlea, Co. Kerry. The five deposits were in a small area and included the fill of a truncated post-hole of unknown date, the ashes from a modern coal fire and a deposit of fire-shattered stone, charcoal and black soil, filling a small shallow pit of unknown date. Nothing else of significance was noted during the excavations' (Connolly 2003, 170; www.excavations.ie 2001:573).

The record for this monument has been assessed in relation to its proposed inclusion in the revised statutory Record of Monuments and Places (RMP). The evidence indicates that the monument has been totally removed (both above- and below-ground archaeology). In consequence, it will not be included in the revised RMP.
