Barrow - ring-barrow

The National Monuments Service's description

'The land is quite marshy and wet and is used as rough grazing for cattle at the moment. Several low banks of earth and stone also occur in this complex, but, as yet, their relationship to the barrows is unknown. Located on the west bank of a small river which is prone to flooding, c.200m from the coast in an area of marshy grassland...... situated in the same field as the previous two barrows [KE038-138----, KE038-139----], this site occurs c.60m to the west of the River Lee, this circular barrow has been partially disturbed by a field fence which ran in an E-W direction through the middle of the enclosure. Only the lowest course of the fence now survives, the boundary having been removed since being recorded on the OS 2nd Ed. Map. A sizable chunk of the barrow, approximately 2.50m by 2.50m has also been removed on its south east side in an attempt to quarry rock and stone from the area. Total dimensions of the site are 23.0m N-S by 23.0m E-W. The enclosing bank has an average width of 3.00m, and has a maximum external height of 0.80m at south, average height being 0.40m. An inner ditch, averaging 2.50m in width, encloses a circular central platform 10.0m in diameter and 0.35m high. This ditch is 0.40m below the crest of the bank and is 0.35m below the level of the central platform.'
