The National Monuments Service's description
In 1610 'Edmund FitzJohn FitzGerald was seised in fee of the castle and town and lands of Glandine' and the family forfeited all in 1653 (King 1931, 192). The castle may be that which appears on 17th century maps as Castle Launder/Linder/Lander though, on the maps, the latter is placed nearer to Anascaul or Inch (Ó Conchúir 1973, 95). No trace of any features survives, but the site is still pointed out locally. It was situated in a commanding position overlooking Glenfais.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 1007. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
