Caherbaun/An Chathair Bhán: Situated on the E side of the entrance to Gleann na nGealt, on a fairly steep slope c. 200m from the river. A laneway now traverses the centre of the site which is largely destroyed. The only indication of its former presence occurs on the W side of the lane where a semi-circular level space, 28m in maximum diameter, is defined to W by a curving scarp which falls 1.9m to the external ground level. Its condition appears to have been little better in the early 19th century when it was described as 'the ruin of some fortress now nearly defaced and partly cultivated with an old road leading through the centre' (OSNB Kilgobban, 41). Some possible graves were also noted at that time and it was reputedly used as a children's burial ground.
