The National Monuments Service's description
(r) This structure abuts the S side of a pre-bog field wall which extends ENE-WSW along the summit of the low ridge defining the W side of the valley. The peat has been completely removed over a large area here and both the wall and structure can be seen to have been constructed on the underlying ground surface. The structure is now for the most part collapsed, but appears to have consisted of a low narrow chamber, at least 1.75m long x c. 0.55m wide, which is defined along its NW side by the collapsed field wall, and along its SE side by 2 upright slabs which decrease in height from .75m at the open SW end to c. 0.42m at the collapsed NE end. The large flat slab now lying partly on the field wall and partly on the chamber is probably a displaced capstone. The original function of this feature is not clear. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 25. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 3 August 2013
