The National Monuments Service's description
Internal diam. 42.6m E-W, c. 30m N-S
An oval rath situated a short distance E of Feohanagh village in the low-lying, level plain drained by the Feohanagh river. The single earthen bank is revetted internally and externally with drystone walling which shows signs of much rebuilding and repair. The NE section of the bank acts also as a townland boundary, and field fences radiate out from the enclosure at various points. The bank reaches a maximum height of 1.4m internally and 1.75m externally. Slight traces of an external fosse survive along the SW sector only. At present there are entrance gaps at SW and E. These are 1 to 1.3m and 1m wide respectively and the latter is now blocked. The surface of the interior is broken here and there with rock outcrop, but a line of 7 or 8 stones, extending 13m across the interior from near its N edge, appear to have been deliberately laid on edge and one stone stands upright; the function of this feature is not known.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 416. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
