The National Monuments Service's description
Fulacht Fia surveyed in 1985 by the Castleisland District Archaeological Survey and described as follows; 'Fulacht Fiadh is not recorded on either edition of the O.S. Maps. A local person informed us of its existence. The monument is situated in a field of pasture which slopes to the east-south-east. A field fence which supports a line of coniferous trees borders the monument on the east-south-east. A water source appears to be located at the far side of this field fence immediately to the east of the Fulacht Fiadh. A wet area lies to the east of the mound, this appears to consist of a spring which forms a small pool of water on the far side of the field fence which borders the monument on the east. The actual mound of the Fulacht Fiadh is however located in the southern portion. The outline of the mound appears to suggest a horseshoe shaped outline open to the south-south-west. The outline could however be partly the result of the levelling process. The mound measures 12.5m from east-south-east to west-north-west and 8.8m from north-north-east to south-south-west (measured from base of shape of mound on either side. The external height of the rear of the mound on the north-north-east measures c. 40cm over 6m'.
