The National Monuments Service's description
This site is known locally as a burial ground, particularly for children. It lies about 75m SE of Murirrigane, on a gentle E facing slope overlooking Brandon Bay. At the SW corner of a field, a small area, measuring 14 x 18m, is bounded to N and W by field walls and to S by the Murirrigane river. Its E side is open and centrally positioned along this side is a small, circular cairn of stones, retained by low, roughly-built drystone masonry. The cairn is c. 3m in diameter and .6m high and its upper surface is strewn with a number of quartz pebbles.
A dressed slab, with a series of markings, was discovered at a calluragh in this area (CKFC 1949), probably this one but possibly the burial ground at Ballymore (KE026-007----). The present whereabouts of the stone is not known and it was therefore not possible to determine whether the markings represent a script, as believed by the Co. Kerry Field Club, or whether they were natural or accidental.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 906. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
