Ringfort - rath

Internal diameter 29.2m N-S, 29.6m E-W
This sub-circular univallate rath is situated at the bottom of a long, narrow pastoral field. It is touched to the N, W, S and SE by fieldbanks. The enclosing bank is constructed of earth and stone and is c 7m wide at the base. It rises to 3.4m high externally and 2.5m internally. The interior is at much the same level as the surrounding land and access is gained by a 8.4m wide entrance to the SE. In the N sector of the interior are the remains of souterrains (KE015-033001-): The most N one is open and drystone walling is evident, though this chamber has been filled with rubbish. In the NE corner of the chamber, a lintel stone can be seen. Three metres to the S of this chamber lies a second one; this, however, has collapsed, though a lot of stones are visible.
