Promontory fort - coastal

The National Monuments Service's description

Possible promontory fort described in 1995 as; 'This promontory fort is not marked on any edition of the OS maps. Originally there was one here, according to local tradition, though no trace survives today' (Toal 1995, no. 108).
Possible fort described by Casey (2002, 44) as; ‘A triangular north-facing headland flanked by a deep chasm on either side was cut off along its broad neck by a 4.5m wide fosse and earthen banks, now reduced to a scarp less than 1m wide. Best preserved along the east, a 3m wide causeway crosses that fosse some 19m from the eastern edge. The interior measures 35m wide and 38m long and the remains of a perimeter bank runs along the western cliff edge. The interior is flat, with the northern extremity sloping down to the point. The garth is featureless and consists of coarse pasture. Generally the area is one of hilly fertile cleared and drained pasture. This is likely to be the site of the promontory fort mentioned in the Kerry Archaeological Survey but not located.’
