The National Monuments Service's description
In level pasture just NE of a medieval church (KD029-005001-) and graveyard (KD029-005004-). Sir Robert FitzEustace (d.1486) possessed the manor of Ballycotelan (ie Coughlanstown) with three castles (Tickell 1960, 368). A castle is shown on Noble and Keenan's 1752 Map of County Kildare just NE of the church and graveyard, and is recorded in ruins on Taylor’s later (1783) Map of County Kildare. No visible surface trace survives.
