The National Monuments Service's description

This octagonal pedestal feature (c. 1m high) with chamfered stops at the base has a shallow basin carved in its upper surface: it serves as a free-standing benniter immediately outside the west entrance to the R.C. Church. A plaque on the wall beside the holy water stoup (GA119-049001-) nearby records that it was brought from the old church site (GA119-049----) across the road to the north. Although the original function of this pedestal is unknown it is seems likely that it may originally served as a section of a door jamb that was recut and carved into a free-standing benniter. (Robinson 1980; Gosling 1993, no. 525)
