The National Monuments Service's description
On a narrow terrace c. 40m SE of an enclosure (GA110-095002-). This Nat. Mon., correctly Clochán an Phúca, was described by O'Donovan as the most perfect clochan on Inis Mór (Goulden 1956, 40). An OS drawing of 1840 shows it as subrectangular in plan (L c. 5.5m, Wth c. 2.7m) with opposing doorways in side-walls, an internal partition and a fine corbelled roof (ibid.). The latter was still partly intact some 30 years later (Kinahan 1869d, 27-8, no. 25). Completely ruinous in 1975 (pers. comm. J. Waddell) but subsequently cleaned by OPW. The present roofless remains (5.25m by 2.6m) bear little resemblance to drawing of 1840. The original doorways, in E and W walls, are now blocked, and a completely modern porch-like entrance has been constructed through the N end-wall. A second clochan lies in next field to SE (GA110-103001-). (Robinson 1980)
