The National Monuments Service's description
On level ground, now occupied by stone-walled pasture fields to SE of Fearann an Choirce, Inis Mór. This very tall (H 3.6m; base Wth 0.6m; T 0.3m) and very slim limestone monolith is subrectangular in plan. It is incorporated into a roughly N-S running field wall. The stone is undressed and no decorative features are evident. It is believed to mark the grave of a great saint (O'Flanagan 1927a, Vol. 3, 372). (Robinson 1980; Westropp 1895, 261)
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
