The National Monuments Service's description
Identified as F1005 - this bedrock hollow was the N example in a series of three (see also GA110-039003- and GA110-039004-) exposed along the W side of Cutting 1 in the inner enclosure of Dún Aonghasa (GA110-039----). The excavated area (L 5.6m; Wth 2m; D 0.16m) extended northwards from the wall chamber in the inner wall of the enclosure before angling back in under the enclosure wall. It is possible that it linked up with F235 (GA110-039003-) in the sub-wall area. A spread of paving toward the S end of the hollow belonged to the end of sequence and could date from any period. Occupational refuse included some well-preserved animal bone and limpet shells. Finds included a small amount of pottery, a bone point and pins, a grinding slab, a rubbing stone and a fragment of a clay mould (Cotter 2012, vol. 1, 286-7).
