The National Monuments Service's description
This gable finial, originally from Inis Cealtra (Holy Island), Co. Clare, is now in the the care of the OPW (Athenry depot, Co. Galway). Drawings by Macalister (1916-17, pl. 10) and de Paor (SMR file, List 1, no. 30) indicate that it had an elaborate cross at its centre. Its exact original location is unknown but see CL029-009036- regarding it.
