The National Monuments Service's description
On the S-facing slope of a hill in pastureland. This rectangular moated site (38m NW-SE; 23m NE-SW), in fair condition, is defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank is best preserved from WNW to N (H 1.7m). The fosse is visible all round and is wide and flat-bottomed (Wth 2.28m; D 1.3-1.7m). The outer bank (Wth 5m; ext. H 0.2m) is quite faint and survives only from S through W to WNW. There is a possible causeway (Wth c. 3m) across the fosse at SE and a gap in the inner bank (Wth 8m) at E. Apart from a short section of walling (L 2m; H 0.4m) in the ESE corner of the interior no visible surface trace of the associated castle (GA083-036002-) survives. In the NW part traces of a rectangular structure (L 18m; Wth 3.3m) defined by a stony bank (Wth 0.8m; H 0.4m) may be the remains of an internal division or a later wall. Lynch Athy (1913-14, 165-6) noted that 'beyond the ditch but running up to its bank’, there was ‘another square enclosure’ (see GA083-036003-). There is a large pond to the SSW of the monument.
