The National Monuments Service's description

At the head of a small tidal estuary close to the mouth of Cuainín na hAirde. The remains of a small jetty lie close by to SE. In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'Tege na Buly' O'Flaherty (Nolan 1901, 116). Fragments of E and N walls (>10.15m by >15.80m) of what was probably a tower house survive. The E wall (Wth 1m, H 5m max.) contains a crude single-light window and has a rectangular recess in its W face. The possible foundations of a bawn wall are visible to SW. (Robinson 1985, 38; Hardiman 1846, 101-2; O'Flanagan 1927a, Vol. 3, 119, 125)

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993).
