The National Monuments Service's description

Human remains were discovered in the W face of a sand and gravel quarry in 2011. Excavated under licence (11E0430) it was found to comprise a shallow grave containing the remains an adult male in a crouched position. The lower limbs had been exposed in the quarry face and were without feet; these may have been removed in the quarrying process or by subsequent slippage of the quarry face. The exposed bone was weathered, indicating that the remains had been exposed to the elements for some time. A small hole in the skull was the only noticeable blemish in the skeleton that was otherwise in good condition. This wound was inflicted by a small, socketed, iron arrowhead which had pierced the skull and was recovered from the interior. A small section of a souterrain (GA071-090----) also was exposed in the same quarry face some 24m to the NE. (Galway City Tribune, 25 November 2011)
