The National Monuments Service's description
Associated with a 'Nunnery' (GA066-026001-). According to OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 242), 'children are interred in the space included within these vestiges [i.e. of a possible chapel]'. What is visible is a low rectangular platform (E-W 15.5m, N-S 14m, H 0.5m) enclosed by a mortared stone wall (Wth 0.6m, H 2m max.). There is a gateway at W end of S wall, and an earthen field bank runs N-S from its E side. Within the overgrown and partially rubble-filled interior, numerous set stones are visible indicating graves oriented E-W. There is is one simple gravestone at W end, dated 1871.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
