The National Monuments Service's description
On a slight E-facing slope in pastureland, immediately SW of the td. boundary. Aerial reconnaissance in July 1970 (CUCAP BDT 81) revealed a curving cropmark in the field surface immediately outside S wall of the roughly rectangular graveyard. All that is visible on the ground surface are faint traces of a ploughed-out bank (Wth 9-12m). This appears to form a continuation of the curve in E wall of the graveyard, suggesting the former presence of a large enclosure (NE-SW c. 80m) encircling the church (GA044-047002-). Its line is thus preserved from NE to ESE in the curving section of the graveyard wall, and from SE to SW by the cropmark. A holy well (GA044-073001-) and a 'Sweat Kiln' (GA044-073002-) lie 100m to E.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
