The National Monuments Service's description

Close to the summit of a hill overlooking bogland to S. Described by Neary (1914, 125, no. 100) as 'a large cashel ... of which the wall was 6 ft. [1.8m] thick, ... roughly oval, 300 ft. [91.4m] by about 400 ft. [121.9m], perhaps more' What survives is a roughly circular enclosure (D c. 78m) enclosed by a low scarp (H 1.2m max.), no trace of which survives at W where gravel pits have been dug along its line. Traces of a shallow external fosse (Wth 8m) are visible at N. A church (GA017-024----) surrounded by a rectangular graveyard lies within the interior.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
