Situated at the N end of Dalkey town at the junction of Castle Street and Ormeau Dive. The church is located is within a rectangular walled-in graveyard raised above the level of the road. The church is built of coursed granite masonry. The nave walls are tall with high-pitched gables. It is entered through a pointed doorway in S wall, also a low lintelled doorway off-centre in the W gable (int. dims. L 14m, Wth 4m). There is a tomb niche in the S wall and a chamfered granite stoup inside the S door. The interior is lit by a single rounded window in the N wall, a slit ope in the S wall and a double-light W window with traces of tracery. The chancel is later in construction and has limestone jambs. The chancel is entered through a round segmental arch. There is a pointed arched doorway in the S wall. Interior is lit by round-headed windows in N and S walls with a double-light E window with an external hood moulding (int. dims. L 7.9m, Wth 6.7m).
This church is associated with St. Begnet and had a chancel added in the late medieval period when it was assigned to Christ Church Catheral and subsequently St. Patricks Cathedral (Turner 1983, 31-32, O'Reilly 1901, 158-161). The church us located to the W of Goat's castle (DU023-023010-).
