Mentioned by Bradley and King (1987, 3, 197, No. 207). In 1231 the Dublin White Book recorded that; 'Roger le Corviser of Bristol, who was a settler in the city of Dublin, erected a mill below the Castle, for which mill-site and St. Peter for opening a lane towards the church of St. Peter de la de la Hulle [DU018-020089-]. Hulle for carrying corn to be ground, he and other tenants of the mill paid a pound of pepper yearly as rent to the King. The justices and treasurers subsequently deeming this mill injurious and perilous to the Castle [DU018-020488-], and too close to the King's mills, caused it to be taken down, and all its materials were carried away. The place where the mill stood is now a small park appropriated to the Castle of Dublin; and the place at the side of the mill where the pond was, near the ground held by Serlot of Ripon, pays the King two shillings yearly, which the constable receives. Thus the King was in possession of the soil from which the rent of a pound of pepper was derivable, and consequently the citizens are free from arrear (CARD Vol. 1, 148-9). No surface remains visible, the precise location of this watermill has not been identified.
