The National Monuments Service's description

According to Flanagan (1984, 112) there was an early church site on the present site of St. Sylvester's RC Church. No architectural remains survive (O'Reilly 1910, 147-165). Test excavation (Licence no. 10E0426) was undertaken in advance of an extension to the modern church. Two post-medieval masonry walls, interpreted as the remains of the early 19th-century church building that previously occupied the site, a small undated pit/drainage gully and a silty deposit that may date from the medieval period, were identified. No burial remains were uncovered. Further testing (Licence no. 11E0326) uncovered medieval structural remains, ditch pits and 18th/19th century masonry walls.
