The National Monuments Service's description
Site of historic town can be located on the footprint of the modern town along with evidence of placenames such as Fort Well (DG053-042003-) and Castle Garden which refer to the seventeenth century plantation fort (DG053-042001-). This well may have been built in the 17th century to supply the drinking water for the occupants of the fort and the town. Unable to get access to well as it appears to be located in the private grounds of a dwelling house to the SW of Market Square.
