The National Monuments Service's description
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
According to O'Donovan (OSL 1839, 48) SW portion of ringfort of raised or platform type. Shown on 1839 'OS 6-inch' map as circular area depicted by hachures (max. diam. c. 25m). Disturbed condition (C. 26m NW-SE; max. H 2.8m) makes classification unclear.
A large outer enclosure (c. 78m NW-SE) visible as a semi-circular cropmark on Google Earth (imagery date 14 July 2018) has subsequently been identified by Simon Dowling. The cropmark, visible from S-E-NNW, runs concentrically, c. 40m from the inner enclosure which may or may not be contemporary. A field boundary runs NW-SE through the inner enclosure and neither the inner or outer enclosure are visible on Google Earth E of this field boundary.
