The National Monuments Service's description
Marked 'Abbey Well' on all editions of the OS 6-inch maps. Holy well covered by a stone structure on top of which has been inserted the head of a high cross (CW008-045011-) both of which have been built into the S face of the NE wall of the 'Abbey graveyard' (CW008-045005-) which contained the site of an Augustinian abbey (CW008-045001-). River Slaney located 17m to NE. The well now dried up was accessed by stone steps on the S side which was covered by a semi-circular headed arch.
