The National Monuments Service's description
Situated SSE of the old Cathedral (CV028-070004-). Its chief pride is the tomb of William Bedell, the Protestant Bishop of Kilmore from 1629 to 1642, compiler of an Irish grammar and (in collaboration with three others) first translator of the Old Testament into the Irish language. There are, in addition, a considerable number of late 17th-century and 18th-century tombs and gravestones. (O'Connell 1937, 400-3, 428-9; Davies 1948, 99; Killanin and Duignan 1989, 102)
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
