The National Monuments Service's description

On the E slope of Mount Gabriel, on the lower N extension of an E-facing scarp, c. 100m NNE of another mine (CO139-026012-). First recorded by Duffy (unpublished field sheets, Geological Survey of Ireland, 1929) as an ‘old working bed of copper-stained grey grits’, it was omitted from subsequent surveys of the Mount Gabriel mines. On inspection it consisted in a near-horizontal opening driven into the base of 1.4m high rock face. The surface opening (Wth 0.92m; H 0.36m) has an irregular profile partly obscure by rush growth. No spoil sediments or stone mauls were identified, and there is no evidence that prehistoric mining ever took place at this location. (O'Brien 1994, 361: mine 32)

The above description is derived from William O’Brien’s monograph ‘Mount Gabriel, Bronze Age mining in Ireland’ (Galway: Galway University Press, 1994).
