The National Monuments Service's description

In tillage, on S-facing slope. No visible surface trace; modern bungalow built close to site of castle. According to Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 251) 'remains of an extensive fortress occupied by the Spainards in 1601, and by the royalists in 1641'.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
