The National Monuments Service's description
Abandoned circular redoubt at NE end of Whiddy Island; two similar redoubts (CO118-078---; CO118-077) to SW. Indicated on OS 6-inch map 1842 as a circular field. Inaccessible. According to Kerrigan (1981, 5) similar in dimension to the West Battery (CO118-077) and similar in layout to Middle Battery (CO118-078---). Aerial photograph (Daphne D.P.C. Pochin Mould) shows site overgrown with three ranges in centre. Built by 1807 to house 100 men and mounted eight guns. (Kerrigan 1981, 5).
