The National Monuments Service's description
Circular area (diam. 23.7m NNE-SSW) enclosed by stone bank (H 1.6m). Break in bank to S, heavily overgrown. Interior covered in ferns, large sandstone slab lying in N half. Myler (1998, 22) notes 'a possible entrance feature to the east'. Myler (1998, 22) also notes the following information: 'Local folklore has it that a giant was buried here and that there are carvings on the stones western facing side. This carved symbol resembling a three fingered hand recurs in this area. In a small field some 2 yards north of the fort are two small stones 1ft. high and a cairn to the east of them'. Myler (1998, 23) recorded a possible souterrain '100 yards to the west of the ringfort'.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
